“And he said to them:
‘Come apart into a desert place, and rest a little.’ For there were many coming and going: and they had not so much as time to eat.” —Mark 6:31
For the Christian faithful, relaxing and having fun are not incompatible with thinking about and serving others. Jesus’ compassionate heart was always active, and even with rest on his mind, he was available to those who were in need of God’s Word (Mark 6:31-33).
Hence, Jesus teaches us that being ready to do God’s will in everything means also being always ready to serve others (Mark 6:32-34). As followers of Jesus, we need to emulate his example. We need to strive to be present to those who have genuine and reasonable need of our attention, even when they turn up unexpectedly and interrupt our well though out plans.
