Reflection Passage For Today: Mark 2:13-17
We have a God who is not ashamed to meet with us even in our sinfulness and who longs for our company. It does not matter to him what we may have done or who we may have become and how far away from him we may have strayed, God wants us back (Mark 2:13-17). Do not allow your past to imprison you!
In our gospel passage today, the hypocritically pious Pharisees who took offence that Jesus would eat with tax collectors and sinners (Mark 2:16). But Jesus knows only too well that the gospel message is good news only to those who are in need of being saved (Mark 2:17). So it did not matter to him whether mere wo/men gave him a bad name on account of doing good. He was simply not afraid of his reputation being smeared as he mixed with tax collectors and sinners (Mark 2:13-17).
We too must endeavour to do likewise. For those whose company we avoid may well be the ones who need to see and hear the message of salvation in and through us (Mark 2:16-17).
