The life of those who like Abel, strive to be morally upright challenges, exposes and shames those who are not (1 John 4:12). Like Abel, they are often subjected to ridicule, hatred, persecutions, and sometimes even killed (1 John 4:12-13).

We must not be like Cain, hardhearted and filled with hatred (1 John 4:12,15). We must also not shy away from being virtuous which is, to relate in love with one another following God’s own examples towards us. We were created in love, and redeemed in love, and we are at this moment till our life’s end, materially and spiritually sustained by God’s love (Psalm 100, John 1:43-51, 1 John 4:16).

Hence, our own love for one another must be genuine, and must be seen and felt in this world, beginning with those around us (John 1:47, 1 John 4:18-21).
