The testimony of John is of great importance, especially in these times of lukewarmness and loss of faith (1 John 1-4). As an eye witness to the Christ event, the Apostle John stands as an authority worthy of belief (1 John 1:2-3, John 20:8). His testimony is as follows: that Jesus is God, hence his existence from the beginning (1 John 1:1); that Jesus was with the Father and has been revealed, made visible (1 John 1:3); and that Jesus is life, eternal life (1 John 1:2, John 20:9).
These testimonies are meant for our assent, so that we too may have the joys of eternal life (1 John 1:4).
