Today a saviour has been born to us (Luke 2:11, Isaiah 9:6-7). Today a great light is reignited and shines in our darkened world (Isaiah 9:2). Today our hope is rekindled and our joy is increased and no one is excluded (Isaiah 9:3-5, Psalm 95(96):11-13). So let the godly and the virtuous rejoice, for surely their reward awaits them. The ungodly also should rejoice, for mercy has been shown them, and pardon offered (Titus 2:11-14).

Hence with the heavenly heralds of this news of great joy, let all rejoice and pray: “Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.” (Luke 2:14).
