With just a few hours to Christmas day we are being reassured of the Lord’s coming (Malachi 3:1). Christmas also reminds us of that encounter with the Lord at the end of our lives, hence the need for adequate preparation as no one will be able to resist or prevent his coming (Malachi 3:2).
In preparing for the Lord, of utmost importance is the state of our relationships, most especially, family (Malachi 3:24). This should not come as a surprise because God knows only too well that the larger human society is only a reflection of the state of the family relationships, of family life. Our gospel passage for today in addition to fulfilling other details in the prophecy of Malachi, clearly established the great importance of healthy family relationships and its effects on the large human community (Luke 1:57-66).
Consequently, each and everyone of us must examine our relationships and strive to repair whatever needs repair, most especially, in our families.
