As the source and creator of all things, God is rightly called Father. And just like any loving parent, God teaches and guides us his children (Isaiah 48:17). The reason for this, is the same as why every good parent teaches and guides the child. It is done primarily so as to provide wise counsels about life to their children so as to help them have God’s favour in abundance, and a fuller experience of life. Also, so that they may to avoid coming to harm and endangering their lives, their potentials and their future (Isaiah 48:18-19).
However, refusing to be taught and to be guided by God’s wisdom in our life comes with unattractive consequences. Just as any child who refuses to heed the advice of his loving parents often do come to ruin (Isaiah 48:19, Matthew 11:16-19).
My dear friend, you can be favoured also. Therefore, let us strive to cultivate the habit of paying attention to God’s words, and abiding by them during this holy season of Advent. By so doing we dispose ourselves for God’s blessings and favours (Psalm 1:1-4,6; Isaiah 48:18-19).
