Are you physically and spiritually drained and exhausted? Stressed and stretched? Do you feel weary and/or overburdened by life’s challenges? Is your marriage, your family life, your work, your faith etc., a load now too heavy to bear? Take heart and do not despair. For Jesus invites you and us to come to him and have rest (Matthew 11:28-29).
But Jesus is not saying that he will take away our burden. Rather he is asking us to allow him to help us shoulder our burden by being yoked together with him, thus making our task a lot easier as we continue our life’s journey (Matthew 11:29). Our Lord Jesus Christ is able to achieve this for us because “he does not grow tired or weary” rather, he “gives strength to the wearied” and “strengthens the powerless.” (Isaiah 40:28-29).
Hence, as we continue to intensify our preparations for the Lord’s coming, may we endeavour to place all our hope in him so that the strength to continue on the path of eternal life may be renewed and increased in us (Isaiah 40:31). Amen!
