In our gospel passage today, Jesus brings to our consciousness the fact of change, and the transient nature and impermanence of human existence on earth. However, his words will never pass away – which is a definite assurance about the reality of eternity with God in his Kingdom (Luke 21:29-33).
My dear friend, even without reference to Jesus’ words, we do know that this life does come to an end. We are also aware of how quickly things in this life can change. The one who was healthy few minutes ago can be battling for life few minutes later. The one who is alive moments ago can be laying dead moments after. Those who may have witnessed or experienced accident(s) of any sort, gun violence attacks or any of the terrorist attacks anywhere in the world would quickly agree on how uncertain life can be.
However, we have being assured of one thing that is certainly permanent, the fact of God’s eternal kingdom. That is, the fact of eternity with God in heaven (Luke 21:29-33). Hence, knowing how uncertain this life can be, may we continue to live lives worthy of God’s Kingdom. Amen.
