With the dawn of the internet and the rise of many media houses, televangelists and self proclaimed men of God, the admonition of Jesus to us today (Luke 21:5-11) is quite apt.
Many have indeed arisen who claimed to be the Messiah. Others predicted – with dates, time and duration, days of darkness on earth which will precede the end. Some others have also explained the sometimes violent change in world governments, climatic changes and natural disasters as signs of the end of times. But to all these Jesus has the following words for us: “Refuse to join them”, “… do not be frightened”, because these are things “that must happen but the end is not so soon.” (Luke 21:8-9). It is worthy to note that we are being cautioned here that the people we listen to could essentially harm the quality of our life here on earth and by extension, the quality of our life in eternity.
Thus, the above statements of Jesus are not meant to make us to begin living wayward lives since people still die even before the end of times. Hence, since many do not know when their death will come, there is a great need for all to be ready at all times.
