Is there really anything that we can claim as our own that is not actually from God? My dear friend, life was God’s first gift to us, and all that accrue to us in life are also from him who made everything and saw that they were very good (Genesis 1:31). Being omnipotent, God does not need anything from us. However, giving and being charitable with our time, status, endowments and resources is ultimately for our own good (Matthew 25:41-43). The gift of just five loaves and two fish did make a great difference (Matthew 14:13-21).

But it is not so much what we give that matters, but how we give what we give (Luke 21:1-4). In our scripture passages today, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah (Daniel 1:1–20) and the poor widow (Luke 21:1-4) trusting in God, gave their all to him and placed their futures in his hands. The result was – simply put, amazing.

May we deepen our faith and trust in the Lord, and learn to give ourselves wholly and completely for his purposes in our world today.
