OUR SHEPHERD KING

As our shepherd king (Psalm 23: 1-3a,5-6; 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26,28) – a loving a caring one at that, our Lord Jesus the Christ is particularly interested in the welfare of each and every one of us; and will require an account of our lives (Ezekiel 34: 11-12,15-17). Hence, this life is but a preparation for eternity. How we live determines whether we are counted among the sheep or among the goat on judgement day (Matthew 25: 31-46).

Those to be counted as sheep will enjoy eternity with God because of their selfless love and care for the other. But those to be counted as goats will be lost for omitting to love and care. This is scary. Jesus is telling us that it is not just enough to refrain from objectively evil and sinful acts to be saved. The works of mercy and charity are essential, and must not be neglected.

Scripture Passages For Today: Ezekiel 34: 11-12,15-17; Psalm 23: 1-3a,5-6, 1 Corinthians 15: 20-26,28; Mk.11: 10; Matthew 25: 31-46.
