[1.] 1Corinthians 4:6-15 [2.] Psalm 145:17-21 (Response to the Previous)
[3.] John 14:6 (Summary of Gospel of the Day) [4.] Luke 6:1-5 (Gospel of the Day)
BESIEGED BY THE POWERS OF EVIL, we who truly try to follow Christ, are like fools! (cf. Eph.6:12, 1Cor.4:10). For we bless those who curse us (when we try to prevent the ongoing daily murder of millions of our own human babies – cf. Exo.20:13), we are often attacked—maimed and killed (Nigeria and Syria, among other countries readily comes to mind here – cf. Mat.24:9, Luk.6:22, Joh.16:2), often ridiculed (when we try to share the message of salvation), ever patient with those who abuse us (like when we try to protect the definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman – cf. Gen.2:20-25, Mat.19:4-6), and appeal gently when negative things are said about us (like while prostitution and other depravities and decays are being legalised in many countries, and the willing world media houses used to promote these, the same media magnified the though highly deplored sexual scandals in Christendom, worse hit being Roman Catholicism – cf. Luk.22:31-32). Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash; and that’s the prevailing state of affairs (cf. 1Cor.4:10-13). But “the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God” (cf. 1Cor.3:19).
Hence, though struck and wounded (cf. Gen.3:14-15) we MUST stand tall still, knowing for sure that “the Lord keeps watch over all who love him; but the wicked he will utterly destroy” (cf. Psa.145:17-18*-21). Hence, undeterred, let us keep his LOVE alive in our world, learning from David’s and the Lord’s examples in our Gospel today (Luk.6:1-5), for though we are besieged by the powers of evil (cf. Eph.6:10-18), “the gates of hell shall not prevail against us” (cf. Mat.16:18).
