[1.] Jeremiah 1:17-19     [2.] Psalm 71:1-17 (Response to the Previous)
[3.] Matthew 5:10 (Summary of Gospel of the Day)     [4.] Mark 6:17-29 (Gospel of the Day)

Before Jesus was born, “…among those born of women, there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist” (cf. Mat.11:11). Yet it only took the whim of a naive girl, urged on by her begrudging mother, and a sleazy Sovereign to hasten the transition of such a glorious man into eternal glory. Jesus himself also entered into HIS eternal glory, but not before allowing his own head to be pierced by a crown of thorns – an example for all (cf. Mat.10:24-25a, Mat.27:28ff, Mar.8:34-38, Joh.10:18, Joh.18:4-6).

My dear friend, no harm can come to us if God does not permit it (cf. Job 1:1-22, Jer.1:8, Mat.10:30). Hence, arise! Do not be afraid! (cf. Jer.1:8, Mat.10:28) For more than ever before, our world is in dire need of authentic witnesses (cf. Jer.1:17-19, Mar.6:17-20, Mar.8:36-38, Mat.10:32-33).

And “You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us” – 2 Corinthians 9:11
