MY DEAR FRIEND, if it is y(our) sincere desire to see the glory of heaven – God’s glory then we just have to “LISTEN TO HIM”. In our gospel of the day, we were given a glimpse of what God’s glory looks like: “…his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white…” (cf. Lk.9:29), evocative of Exodus 34:29-30. We were also given a glimpse of how being immersed in God’s glory feels: “…it is good that we are here…” (cf. Lk.9:33).
But God is not just content with us merely seeing his glory like the apostles Peter, John and James did in our gospel passage today; God is eager to share his glory with us. (cf. Jn.17:21,24)
HOWEVER, by appearing in glory with Moses (the great lawgiver of God), and with Elijah (the great mouthpiece of God), Jesus is simply saying to us that we can have a share in the glory of heaven – God’s glory, through obedience to the Law and Word of God (cf. Mt.4:4, Mt.22:37-39, Lk.8:21), of which he (Jesus) is the fulfilment (cf. Mt.5:17-18, Jn.4:34, Jn.17:4, Jn.19:28-30) and our model (cf. Jn.6:38, Jn.13:34, Jn.15:12-13). But do we “LISTEN TO HIM”?
